A committed artistic direction: Tiago Rodrigues
Since 2023, the festival has been led by Tiago Rodrigues, a Portuguese playwright and director known for his humanist approach to theatre. Succeeding Olivier Py, Rodrigues brings a renewed vision: fostering inclusivity and dialogue between cultures and generations. His programming focuses on contemporary themes such as climate change, democratic issues and intergenerational communication.
In his statement for the 2025 edition, he invited audiences to “celebrate, without ever forgetting the tragedies of the past and present,” affirming the importance of deep reflection while celebrating artistic creation.
Beyond the performances, the festival turns the city into a living theatre. The Palais des Papes hosts many shows, while the narrow streets, squares and inner courtyards become spaces for artistic expression.
