Description
Provence seen from the water: white limestone plunging into turquoise coves, island monasteries, car-free paradises scented with pine and eucalyptus. Highlights
- Boat trip through the Calanques National Park

- Porquerolles by bike
- Port-Cros, France's first marine park
- Cassis and Cap Canaille
- Swimming in hidden coves
Itinerary
Day 1 – Marseille, gateway to the sea
Arrival in Marseille, France’s oldest port city. Walk through the Vieux-Port and Le Panier district, then up to Notre-Dame de la Garde for a panorama over the bay and its islands — tomorrow’s playground.
Evening in the fishing quarter of Vallon des Auffes. Overnight in Marseille.
Day 2 – Frioul islands & Château d'If
First crossing: the Frioul archipelago, 20 minutes from the Vieux-Port. Visit of the Château d’If — the island fortress made famous by The Count of Monte Cristo — then walk and swim in the white creeks of Ratonneau island.
Return for sunset over the harbor. Overnight in Marseille.
Day 3 – Calanques by boat & Cassis
The Calanques National Park by sea: morning boat excursion along Sormiou, Morgiou, En-Vau and Port-Pin — cliffs, needles and impossibly blue water. Swimming stop in a cove accessible only by boat.
Afternoon in Cassis: the port, a glass of white wine from the local terraced vineyards, and the panoramic Route des Crêtes over Cap Canaille, Europe’s highest sea cliff. Overnight in Cassis.
Day 4 – Porquerolles by bike
Transfer along the coast to Hyères and crossing to Porquerolles, the largest of the Golden Islands. Bike day: vineyard plains, the lighthouse trail, and the legendary beaches of Notre-Dame and La Courtade, regularly ranked among Europe’s finest.
Overnight on Porquerolles — the island after the last ferry is a privilege few visitors know.
Day 5 – Port-Cros marine park
Port-Cros, the wildest of the three islands and France’s first national marine park. Guided coastal hike through pine forest to the forts, then snorkeling on the marked underwater trail of La Palud — groupers, barracudas and posidonia meadows.
Return crossing in late afternoon. Overnight in Hyères.
Day 6 – Giens peninsula & departure
Last morning at the Giens peninsula: salt pans, flamingos and a final swim on the Almanarre beach, one of Europe’s windsurf capitals.
Depending on your schedule, stop at the medieval old town of Hyères before transfer to Toulon or Marseille station and airport.
